In 2010, Iceland - with a lesbian prime minister, and a parliament which is 50 per cent female - became the first country in the world to outlaw strip clubs for feminist, rather than religious, reasons.
‘I guess the men of Iceland will have to get used to the idea that women are not for sale,’ Gudrun Jonsdottir, who campaigned for the law change, said.
I don’t think that’s an idea that will do men, their bank balances or the women they come across anything but good. Men don’t HAVE to see tits and fannies. They won’t DIE if they don’t have access to a local strip joint. Tits aren’t, like, vitamin D or something. Let’s take our women off the poles.

I love Iceland, I really do. But I believe that outlawing strip clubs is incredibly sex negative. I do believe in licensing or registering sex workers of all kinds in order to make the industry regulated, and safe. But by outlawing strip clubs, you’re outlawing women who want to sell their bodies, and want to express themselves sexually in their own ways, and that’s not okay, in my opinion.
Nonetheless, I understand why some feminists are against strip clubs, but personally, I am for all sex work. (Not to be confused with sex trafficking/slavery)

BUT OMG AT THE FACT THAT THERE’S A LESBIAN PM AND A PARLIAMENT THAT IS ACTUALLY EQUAL. <3

I’m incredibly ambivalent about sex work and exotic dance in the context of feminism…. I’m still making up my mind, but I can understand the arguments on either side
